Cycling - Daft Cycle Lanes - Great Yarmouth

These photos and text were sent to me by Karlj from the Cycling Plus forum. They show a farcilities in Great Yarmouth

Walk on a shared use path? Oh, check out that arrow on the ground! Straight through the barrier.
Gt Yarmouth western bypass

This shared-use path is cyclists alternate route around the junction that forms the roundabout of the Gt Yarmouth western bypass with the Gapton Hall Rd & Pasteur Rd. Incidentally, in Karl's opinion, it's actually just as safe to cycle on the road as it's all traffic light controlled anyhow; so you can't get on the junction unless it is properly clear of traffic coming from the right.

In the pics you can see there are actually 4 seperate signs, 3 on the first set and a smaller one on the left, just by the road, And some recently (gap widened) ''chicane barriers'' .. there are more chicanes on the island in the middle, but none on the far side of the road. On the far side of the road it leads into an ok, perfectly rideable, stretch of shared-use path

This is one of the main reasons I dislike facilities so much, they do not cater for the needs of those who think they need them. More effort should be made to help all cyclists learn to ride on the road and around these hazards. Paths, especially ones like this, do not help.
